SPRING ENERGIZED TEFLON SEAL
Product Details
PTFE jacket: The main part of the seal is the jacket made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which has an extremely low coefficient of friction, good chemical stability, high and low temperature resistance, and other excellent properties. This material is resistant to corrosion by a variety of chemicals and is suitable for most chemical fluids, solvents, etc., and maintains stable physical and chemical properties over a wide range of temperatures. The jacket shape is usually U-shaped or other special shapes for better sealing function.
Metal springs: Seals are fitted with metal springs inside, which are generally made of stainless steel, corrosion-resistant alloys and other materials. The spring plays a key role in the seal, providing elasticity for the seal so that the PTFE jacket can fit tightly on the sealed surface. The spring's elasticity ensures the effectiveness of the seal even when the system pressure is low or when there is an offset or eccentricity of the part.
Principle of operation: When a spring-loaded PTFE seal is installed into the sealing groove, the spring is compressed. At this point the spring's elastic restoring force will act on the PTFE jacket, prompting the sealing lip of the jacket to push out and gently press against the surface to be sealed, thus forming a seal. As the system pressure increases, the pressure further assists the sealing jacket and enhances the sealing effect. The spring not only provides the pressure required for sealing during initial installation, but also compensates for changes in sealing gap due to material wear, offset or eccentricity of mating parts, etc., during the life of the seal, ensuring long-term sealing performance.
