Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), also known as "Plastic King" and trademarked as Teflo, is a synthetic polymer material that replaces all hydrogen atoms in polyethylene with fluorine. This material is resistant to acids and bases, as well as a variety of organic solvents, and is insoluble in nearly all solvents. Teflon is also heat resistant and has a low coefficient of friction, making it ideal for lubrication as well as coating the inside of nonstick pans and pipes.
